Here is the news about Spain tourism recovery!

Spain is recovering tourism: it receives 7.5 million tourists in June, triple the number in 2021.

Spain is recovering one of its most important economic pillars: tourism. Little by little the pandemic is lagging behind, decisions are being diluted and this makes more and more people want to visit all corners of the country again. This favors the Spanish economy, which is suffering as a result of inflation.

According to the latest data published by the INE, during the month of June Spain received the visit of 7.5 million international tourists, more than triple what was recorded in the same month of 2021, when 2.2 million foreign tourists arrived. In addition, these data are close to those that were recorded in pre-pandemic times, 2019. At that time more than 8 million tourists arrived in Spain.

The expenditure made by these tourists in our country amounted to 8,993 million euros. This is 271.3% more than during the month of June 2021, when an expense of 2,422 million euros was recorded.

This increase in tourists in June follows the path of the previous months. In the first six months of 2022, the number of tourists increased by 457%, exceeding 30.2 million. This figure is six times higher than that recorded in 2021, a period when covid-19 restrictions were still very repressive. That meant that only 5.4 million tourists arrived in Spain.

In addition, according to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, during the first six months of the year international tourists spent 35,769 million euros, which represents 89% of pre-pandemic levels. This means that people who visited Spain spent 515.5% more compared to the same period of the previous year.

The tourists who came to Spain the most were the British. In total, 1.8 million people came from the United Kingdom, representing 24.2% of the total. This represents an increase of 1,165.9% compared to June 2021.

But not only spending has increased, now foreign tourists also spend more time in Spain. Of the 6.7 days spent in 2019, during the month of June tourists extended their stay to 6.9 days.

"The data show that, despite the context of international uncertainty, Spain maintains its competitiveness and a good pace of recovery and continues to be the preferred destination of millions of tourists. In addition, we maintain the commitment that we are making from the Government to attract a higher quality international visitor, who finds in his visit many more reasons and experiences to increase spending and stay in our country," says the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto.

By destinations, the Balearic Islands have been the main destination, with a share of 26.3%. Behind are Catalonia (21.6%) and Andalusia (13.5%). In addition, they coincide with those with the highest weight of spending by tourists, with 24.2% of the total; 26.6% and 13.1% respectively.

In the first six months of the year, the main positions of international tourist arrivals are occupied by Catalonia with 6 million, the Canary Islands (5.7 million) and the Balearic Islands with almost 5.2 million. Regarding the total accumulated expenditure of the first six months, the Canary Islands accounted for 22.6% of the total, followed by Catalonia (17.4%) and the Balearic Islands (16.3%).
