Buildings for public use that do not comply with energy saving requirements will be sanctioned.
The Government of Spain has announced the first part of the energy saving measures, with which it hopes to comply with the agreement with the European Union to reduce gas consumption by 7%.
In his words, the current energy situation in Europe is "critical" and there is an obvious risk of a supply cut from Russia at any time, as has already happened with other countries, the last of them, Latvia.
The Minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, has indicated that the Contingency and Savings Plan will be presented next September 2022, but that it was "essential" to address this first package now.

Although he has not delved into the matter, he has affirmed that there will be sanctions for those who do not comply with these demands.
He pointed out that, according to data from the Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE), "one degree less in our thermostat, makes us save 7% in energy consumption".
The most notable of the measures announced is the one that will affect administrative buildings, commercial and cultural spaces, department stores, hotels, cinemas, stations (train and bus) and airports, which must maintain heating in winter at 19 ° C maximum, and at 27 ° C, at least, in summer.
In this regard, establishments are recommended to put up posters with the measures taken and thermometers.
In addition, the lights of the shop windows and the lighting of public buildings that are not in use will have to be turned off.

It will also be required, in order to achieve energy savings, to keep the door of the premises closed when the air conditioning or heating is in operation.
The Government will require that a review of air conditioning, hot water or boiler installations be carried out, as long as the last review was prior to January 2021.
Ribera stressed that the application of these measures will be flexible in the sense of guaranteeing the rights of workers.
In addition to those mentioned, the minister has indicated (making an appeal to private companies) that it would be important to promote teleworking again.
