This proposal comes after a rigorous succession process conducted by the council's appointments committee.

This proposal comes 4 years after the frustrated appointment of Andrea Orcel, who came from UBS Group, and with which the entity ended up in court after withdrawing the signing offer due to disagreements regarding his salary. Now, the entity bets on someone from within the group.

Grisi will succeed José Antonio Álvarez, who joined the bank in 2002. In 2004, he was appointed chief financial officer and in 2015, CEO. After the transition period, Álvarez will continue the board of directors as non-executive vice president.

Regarding the new CEO, the president of the entity has indicated that she has "a lot of confidence" in him. "He accumulates decades of experience and a deep knowledge of our markets and our business lines. In addition, in these years he has demonstrated his leadership, teamwork and ability to create value for our customers and shareholders. His excellent results as CEO of Santander Mexico and head of North America speak for themselves and are the best example of why the board has chosen him to lead the bank in this new phase of growth and transformation,” he added.
