All about Ford Almussafes: Ford is betting on Almussafes against Germany for the manufacture of electric cars and guarantees its future.
Ford Europe has finally taken the decision to award Almussafes the platform to manufacture electric cars.
The company was torn between the Valencian plant and that of Saarlouis, in Germany.
This decision will mean the arrival of two new electric models that will be manufactured in Almussafes from 2025, thus guaranteeing work in the factory in the long term.
The Valencia factory has been chosen for the industrialization of the GE2 electric car platform, an evolution of the GE1 that uses the Mustang Mach-E, as part of its Agreement for Electrification.

Saarlouis, despite running out of this ambitious project, will have alternatives to expand the existing production lines with new models.
Currently, Ford Almussafes is responsible for the production of the Ford Kuga, Transit, Tourneo Connect, S-Max and Galaxy.
Recently, at the end of March, the factory ceased production of the Ford Mondeo, which had left the Valencian assembly line for years for different European markets.
However, in the next two years the work portfolio is expected to decrease in Almussafes.
The Transit will disappear in mid-2023, passing its manufacture to the Volkswagen Group plant in Poznan, in Poland, as part of an agreement to develop and produce joint commercial vehicles.
Ford Almussafes award
The production of the vans in Almussafes will continue until the beginning of 2024, when the Mexican facilities in Hermosillo will oversee their manufacture. Both the Ford Galaxy and the Ford S-Max will also disappear, two large people carriers that barely represent 5% of the production capacity of the Spanish plant.
Almussafes will have only the production of the Kuga from 2024, a model that represents more than 50% of the activity in the factory and that will undergo an update in 2025. That same year, the two new electric cars based on the GE2 platform newly assigned to Ford Almussafes should be added.
As far as these two new models are concerned, now all that is known is that they will be large cars, C-segment or higher. Ford has not gone into more details for now.
In short, good news for Ford Almussafes, which guarantees work at the factory until 2030. Now, the production of engines will have to evolve to adapt to the new needs of the market, a market that will increasingly demand hybrid and electric vehicles.
