Five richest Spain people list 2022 - A tax on the richest would allow everyone to pay for vaccines and reduce poverty: this is what would be collected globally and in Spain, according to a study.

Reducing poverty, developing vaccines for everyone, boosting health care or climate action, or covering efforts against gender-based violence in eighty countries: these are some of the achievements that could be achieved if a progressive tax were introduced on the fortunes of the richest people in the world.

This is estimated by a study conducted in sixty-six countries by the Fight Inequality Alliance, the Institute for Policy Studies, Oxfam and Patriotic Millionaires.

It would be a wealth tax of 2% for the world's millionaires, 3% for those with more than $ 50 million (about forty-five million euros, at current exchange), and 5% for the billionaires (over 1,000 million dollars, or 900 million euros), which would raise 2,52 billion dollars per year (2,22 billion euros).

That amount would be enough to lift 2.3 billion people out of poverty, manufacture vaccines for everyone, and provide universal health care and social protection to all citizens in low-and lower-middle-income countries (3.6 billion people), the analysis estimates.

An annual tax on the wealth of millionaires and billionaires could also generate enough revenue to make vaccines for everyone and fill funding gaps for universal climate action, health, and social protection, as well as efforts to combat gender-based violence in more than eighty countries, the authors add.

According to World Bank data collected by Bloomberg, in December 2021 only 4% of people in low-income countries were vaccinated, while that percentage was 80% in higher-income countries.

In Spain, 90.5% of those over 12 years have received the complete regimen, while between 65% and 90% of those over 40 years have also received the booster vaccine against COVID-19, according to the latest health data.

The ministry also highlights that "Spain is one of the leading countries in solidarity vaccination, with more than 50 million COVID-19 vaccines donated to date, mainly to countries in Latin America and Africa".

The low rate of vaccination in other parts of the world not only particularly affects the most vulnerable people in those countries but may contribute to the emergence of new variants of the coronavirus, experts warn.

The researchers also perform an analysis of each of the sixty-six countries included in the study, including Spain.

In its 'technical data sheet' of Spain says that there are 38.770 people with a net worth of $ 5 million or more (4.4 million euros), with a total wealth of about 800,000 million dollars (more than 700,000 euros), as well as 1.865 people with at least $ 50 million (forty-four million euros), with a combined wealth of 383.400 billion dollars (around 340,000 euros).

Finally, there are 26 Spanish billionaires (more than 1,000 million dollars), which add up to a wealth of 126,300 million dollars (more than 110,000 million euros). Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, the fortune of these people has increased by 22,250 million dollars (almost 20,000 million euros), the study compares.

As of November 30, 2021, the five richest people in Spain are:

• Amancio Ortega: 73,600 million dollars (64,700 million euros)
• Sandra Ortega Mera: 7,000 million dollars (about 6,150 million euros)
• Rafael del Pino: 4,400 million dollars (3,900 million euros)
• Juan Roig: 4,100 million (approximately 3,600 million euros)
• Daniel Mate: 2,700 million (about 2,400 million euros)

People with more than 4.4 million euros of wealth in Spain only represent 0.08% of the country's population, but they accumulate more wealth than the poorest 50%, highlight the researchers.

In this case, the same tax on the richest in Spain (types of 2% on those over $ 5 million, from 3% to more than fifty million, and 5% of those who accumulate more than 1,000 million) would raise 25.840 million dollars (more 22,700 million euros) a year, "enough to eliminate the health budget of households in a 93%", they explain.

If it were more progressive-rates of 2%, 5% and 10%, respectively -, the collection would rise to 36,600 million dollars (about 32,200 million euros), they add.
