Spider Man Away Home review promises superior quality: Spider-Man: Beyond Home is our first view of the Marvel Universe after Avengers: Endgame, the end of an era and a new beginning. There are too many twists in this movie to ignore, so ....

Spoilers Ahead

While the trailers tried to start a multiverse, the universe broke up after Thanos entered, the history of Mysterio's comic book as a trickster is kept fidelity; Unfortunately, there is no Spider-Verse in the MCU (yet).

Stoned by Tony Stark and inspired by Iron Man, Mysterio tries to promote himself as the new savior of the Earth, organizing an ecological disaster or two. Jake Gyllenhaal, certainly launched as Spider-Man in another universe, makes Mysterio entertaining, playing it as a selfish, manipulative and not distant.

Strangely, the film indirectly places Tony Stark on something like that; an incredibly irresponsible weapon maker and exploiting billionaire, as if it had remained almost unchanged from Iron Man events.

Here, Tony leaves a system of mass surveillance / weapons of guidance in the hands of his protected young man, giving a literal child a power equivalent to that of the President of the United States (as appropriate). Like Killmonger and Vulture, Mysterio's grievances are fairly legitimate, so the character is described as a violent maniac so as not to question the shaky morality of the story.

As Stark was employed by Tony's potential changing technology, Mysterio has good reasons to be upset and considering that Tony not only spied on his Americans but also equipped the teenager with the ability to call the strike drone, Mysterio's contempt for Stark is, strangely, extremely easy to understand.

Mysterio's hallucinogenic techniques prove more than just a Spider-Man match; the sequence in which Peter succumbs to a series of illusions that change, highlighting the film, one of the most exciting, spectacular battle sequences that Marvel ever gave, even better than the struggle between Thanos and Doctor Strange.

Clearly, Thanos had no imagination; he used Reality Stone to throw bubbles instead of pushing opponents to the brink of madness. If Mysterio had been more ruthless in the assassination attempt, he could easily kill Spider-Man.

In a marvelous touch, a scene shows Mysterio "rehearsals" for his victories with his production team, assembling his battle sequences as if filming a superhero film in the movie.

Few on the long side, Far From Home brings together this incarnation of Peter and Mary Jane, a love story that feels a bit too familiar, even with all the plot overturns and landscape changes. This movie does not feel as timely as Homecoming, which unmistakably incorporates The Avengers into the experience of Peter's 9/11 high school in the Marvel universe.

Snap's strange effect, the five years of time separating stray and spared, is played for laugh but barely explored, essentially ignoring the potential chaos that would have been unleashed.

But more importantly, Peter's and Tony's adorable relationship continues to evolve, even after Tony's death, as Peter adapts to his new role in the super-hero post-Iron Man landscape. MCU's Spider-Man has always been defined by his relationship with the original revengers, and here, Peter tries to get away from the spotlight, constant pressure and focus on the issues of the first level of adolescence.

Far From Home makes a vague point about fake news, which, frustrating, do not get interesting until the end of the movie. Mysterio's scam / multimers are based on his claim that today's people will believe anything (and to be fair, Marvel Universe are allowed to believe in bizarre).

Spider Man Away Home review promises superior quality

The fake news theme, however, does not sink until the post-credit overthrow, which sees J.K. Simmons reincarnated as J. Jonah Jameson (!), Now with a strong hint of Alex Jones, a connection he previously received Spider-Man PS4.

While the next Spider-Man movie can not come quite quickly, this story feels almost like a filling, delayed pardoning to the next convincingly conceptual story.

That being said, "Far From Home" is a pleasant film, a gentler and easier tracking from Endgame, but it teaches a more interesting installment than what is delivered. The future of MCU is suggested, with Nick Fury apparently out of the world with Capitel Marvel's old friend, and Spider-Man is condemned to find himself in a false narrative issued by a charismatic propagandist, a more frightening foe than any supervisor.

While Far From Home offers a solid superhero story, he stands in the shadow of the spider man: In Spider-Verse, Spidey's most interesting incarnation.

Although, maybe Peter Parker's future fight against fake news could only eclipse him.
