As soon as the carrier reached its maximum dynamic pressure (ie the moment it was subjected to the greatest mechanical stress), the emergency flight interruption system was activated.

This stopped the thrust of the launcher engines and activated the eight SuperDraco engines that are part of the Crew Dragon. With their help, the ship detached itself from the carrier, flew away to a safe distance, and after about eight minutes on parachutes landed on the surface of the Atlantic Ocean, where four ships headed for it. The launcher exploded and its debris crashed into the sea.

The Sunday dramatic performance, which lasted 84 seconds, was watched by television crews from the ground and directly at Kennedy Space Center or the nearby beaches by hundreds of tourists and locals. The test was originally scheduled for Saturday but was postponed due to bad weather.

The rescue system test was preceded by AP's careful preparation: SuperDraco auxiliary rocket engines that separated the spacecraft from the launcher were tested seven hundred times before launch today. After igniting them, the Crew Dragon moved away from the rocket at 2400 kilometers per hour.

Two mannequins, equipped with sensors to monitor the level of overload, passed the test at the astronauts.
