Wednesday, January 15 Microsoft begins Edge replacement of its internet browser in favor of a new version, based on the open-source browser Chromium.

Some of its features are a priori inactive at the moment. This should change with the start of the updates.

Forced update for individuals

After an initial announcement released a week ago, Yusuf Mehdi, vice president of Modern Life & Devices at Microsoft, confirmed the start of the replacement process on January 15. The company said in a statement that the replacement will be done automatically for PCs running Windows 10 Home and Pro (build 1803, the April 2018 update).

January 15 Microsoft begins Edge replacement

However, companies wishing to keep the old version of Edge can do so, through the use of a toolkit. However, individuals will have no choice: for them, the replacement of Microsoft Edge will take place in all cases. It will be enough to look at the software icon to know if the new version is in place: if it corresponds to the illustration at the top of the article, it means that your browser has actually been updated.

This new version of Edge is not yet fully ready, however. Although it has been available for download for several months, it is still a beta version. As the PCWorld site reports, the latest version (version 79.0.309.60) sees certain functions (notably relating to tabs and history) remain inactive. This could change by January 15. This is also what Microsoft promises, according to which "more information will be available on this date".

TRENDS: Haubourdin: Cargill employees on strike, with 183 positions still threatened

The employees did not take off, this Monday morning in front of the Cargill factory in Haubourdin (North). The site, which belongs to the food giant Cargill, is expected to see 183 of its 328 positions eliminated following a Job Protection Plan.

A "reorientation project" of the factory is being studied, due to "difficult economic conditions in our sector of activity" reports the CGT, quoting the words of the group. The union is behind the action on Monday, supported by other unions (CNT and South), outside the administrative building of the site, in the heart of the city.

"Management is trying to intimidate the staff so that normal production can resume [it decreased by 2/3 in December, in response to the PES announcement] it threatens to shut down the Haubourdin site completely and puts pressure on the staff representatives, threatening them not to pay for certain hours of delegation ", accuses Dorian Vallois, CGT union representative.

Negotiations are continuing with the CFDT and CFE-CGC, indicates the site management. "Since the announcement on November 21 of the project to reorient the site of Haubourdin - a project which aims to give a future to this site, by perpetuating an activity of production of specialty ingredients and by saving 164 jobs - 4 meetings were held and allowed substantial progress in terms of conditions "

The strike could be renewed until the end of the week
