The Hungarian team fought fiercely against handball EB hosts: On Tuesday afternoon, the Hungarian national team clashed with Sweden in the Malmö group of the European Men's Handball Semifinals. István Gulyás's team was able to enter the field due to the development of the afternoon results, knowing that with one tie he would be assured of the Olympic qualifier and third place in the group. However, another feat did not materialize, with the team defeated 24-18 with 18-18 remaining 12 minutes before the end.
On-site report of our posted colleague from Malmo.
The Swedish midfielder's performance has been a huge disappointment for the home crowd so far, as the favorites came in last place without points.
However, we could not shy away from meeting, as Sweden is not a bad team with world stars, as can be deduced from its recent results: for example, it won a silver medal at the 2018 European Championship. The balance against each other could also be cautious: from a Hungarian point of view, it was 18 wins, 3 draws and 21 defeats.
Hungarian team fought fiercely vs handball EB hosts
There were quite a few fans from Hungary, so many red-white-green jockeys have never encouraged István Gulyás in Malmö Arena. The match started with a Mikler brace and then continued with a frantic goal by Zoltán Szita, to which Jim Gottfridsson answered. However, Sita proved unstoppable in the first period of the meet, with three more hits in the first period, and although Pellas kept on catching home, thanks to Mikler's incredible feats, they could not equalize out of the pits. Outside of our goalkeeper, the defense was also very close, but the last passes or finishes were a bit inaccurate at the front, so by the 15th minute there were only seven goals, fortunately 4-3. Unfortunately, Máthé Dominik's second two-minute show and Pellas scored again led to a tie.
Patrik Ligetvári, a hero of the Slovenian game, broke the Hungarian goal of more than 10 minutes, but with the help of Valter Chrintz, the Swedish answer came straight away. Unfortunately, another Ligetvári bomb hit the goal line, and in the 23rd minute, after a play and Andreas Nilsson's goal, Sweden had the first goal of the match. Not long after, Bálint Fekete received a big pass from Győr, and Cuenca's right-handed shooter sold the ziccer in a calm manner. Mikler defended again on the other side, but after a good Swedish defense and a Gottfridsson hit, it was 8-7 just five minutes before the break.
so at the last minute the draw was again, 9-9. What Pellas converted to 10-9 at the last minute, the Swedes could also attack for a two-goal advantage, but fortunately the result did not change.
Fortunately, the second leg began the same way as the first: with Zoltán Szita's bomb, the answer came quickly from Lukas Nilsson. The aggressive Swedish defense made it difficult to find the opponent, and with Pellas' new hit, the home side went two first. Dominic Matthias signed up for goal scorers at the best time, but then we got into trouble again due to Bóka Bendegúz's exhibition, and although a "regular" Mikler feat came, Lagergen restored the two of them. We ended with Zsolt Balogh's seventh, then Lukas Nilsson and Máthé Dominik again, in the 40th minute the Swedes were 14-13, but after the break of Gottfridsson the difference was doubled again.
One of the most beautiful goals of the game so far, Bóka Bendegúz fouled the goalkeeper, and after a great defense, Adrián Sipos faced Appelgren, but he snapped to the top of the bar. What he did not do, however, was Máté Dominik, taking 15-15 off Sweden again.
Petterson and Győri then scored and then scored two doubles players Andreas Nilsson and Bánhidi Bence.
10 minutes before the end of the game, however, the home side went twice, Gottfridsson bombing the goal. In the 53rd minute, Pettersson's shot was defended by Mikler and kept us in the game. The counterattack was an opportunity for Bánhidi, but the squadron couldn't use it. After another goal by Gottfridsson, the Swedes advanced to 21-18.
He was fit for the team as we could not find the goal for nearly eight minutes. Even after the timeout, Balogh's shot was defended by Appelgren. Pellas's fifth goal seemed to make the decision - four minutes before the end. Linus Arnesson scored the match.
