Hungarian Culture Day January 22, 1989 we have been celebrating the Hungarian Culture Day in memory of the manuscript witnessing that Ferenc Kölcsey finished the Anthem on this day in 1823.
Ferenc Kölcsey, who lived in Szatmárcseke from 1815, wrote the greatest masterpiece of his patriotic poetry, Hymnus, in January 1823, at the time of the intensification of the constitutional measures of the Vienna court. The poem was first published in 1829 in Károly Kisfaludy's Aurora, a manuscript still from the stormy centuries of the Hungarian people, without a subtitle, but published in 1832 in the first volume of Kölcsey's works, already published by the author.
The manuscript package containing the Hymnus disappeared in the late 1830s

In 1844, a competition was announced for the composition of the Anthem, which was won by Ferenc Erkel, conductor of the Pest National Theater. His career was premiered on July 2, 1844 at the National Theater under the direction of the composer. On August 10, 1844, he was first sung in public at the Óbuda Shipyard when the Széchenyi Steamboat was launched, and on August 20, 1848, it was first performed at an official state ceremony. At that time, during the festive occasions, they sang alternately or together with the Word, during the period of repression following the suppression of the War of Independence, and then, by consensus,
the Hymn became the national prayer of the Hungarians.
Only the XXXI of 1989, which fundamentally amended the anthem constitution of 1949, officially formulated the anthem. was included in our national emblems. Article I of the Fundamental Law, which entered into force on 1 January 2012, also states: "The Hungarian national anthem by Ferenc Kölcsey with the music of Ferenc Erkel."
