Former Georgian Prosecutor General Claims Former Post: Irakli Shotadze, nominated by the Georgian Technical University, will have to compete with eight other applicants in order to occupy the previous position of Prosecutor General

TBILISI, Jan 16 - Sputnik. On Thursday, two more candidates for the post of Prosecutor General were introduced to the Prosecutor’s Council of Georgia, including ex-Prosecutor General Irakli Shotadze, the board’s website said in a statement.

The post of the Prosecutor General of Georgia became vacant after the parliament in late December 2019 approved the former Prosecutor General Shalva Tadumadze as a judge of the Supreme Court. After that, the Prosecutorial Council began consultations with representatives of the academic community, civil society and legal experts on the method of selecting candidates. The purpose of the consultations is to ensure maximum transparency and transparency of the election of the Attorney General.

Shotadze resigned under public pressure on May 31, 2018. This happened due to the start of a wave of protest in Tbilisi, immediately after the announcement of the verdict in the high-profile case of the murder of two 16-year-old schoolchildren - Levan Dadunashvili and David Saralidze.

To date, nine candidates are applying for the post of Prosecutor General of Georgia, including Shotadze, who was represented by the Georgian Technical University.

Among them are the chairman of the International Observatory of Lawyers and Lawyers, lawyer and human rights activist Grigol Gagnidze, a member of the Georgian Bar Association, lawyer Raul Gamisoniya, dean of the School of Law of Caucasian University LLC Sofia Shengelia, a member of the Bar Association of Paata Gabelia and a lawyer of JP Outsourcing LLC Pikria Zirakashvili. On January 15, two more candidates were added to them. Lawyer Valerian Vacharadze was represented by the law firm JJ GM and Partners, and lawyers Merab Gamkrelidze and David Kodanashvili personally appealed to the prosecutor’s council with a request for registration by candidates for the post of general prosecutor.

Applications for registration of candidates will be accepted until January 17 inclusive, after which the Prosecutorial Council will hold consultations and select three candidates.

After a discussion of the three candidates, the Prosecutorial Council will elect one by a majority vote and submit it to Parliament for approval.

A general prosecutor can be a citizen of Georgia without a criminal record, with a higher legal education, who has at least 5 years of experience as a judge, prosecutor or criminal lawyer, or if he is a representative of academic circles, or from a civil society organization and has experience as a lawyer not less than 10 years.


Rostov chose a contractor who will repair the bridge across Temernik

Bpocove-on-Don, a contract for the repair of a bridge across the Temernik River will be concluded with the Design and Construction Building Management 61 (PMSU 61) company, according to documents on the government procurement portal.

The bridge over the Temernik River is planned to be repaired on Zoologicheskaya Street. The initial contract value amounted to 48.4 million rubles. The winner proposed to complete the work for 41.1 million rubles. Financing will be provided from the federal, regional and municipal budgets.

In addition to PMSU 61, Most-Service LLC took part in the auction, which proposed to repair the bridge for 41.3 million rubles.

Work must be completed before September 1, 2020. The winner will need to carry out a major overhaul of the bridge, including the replacement of the coating, marking, road signs.
