FERC establishes clean energy sources - FERC states that clean energy sources have offered a higher market price: The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission UU He ordered the largest operator in the U.S. grid on Thursday. UU Forcing state-subsidized solar and wind power providers to increase market supplies, a move that renewable energy companies and environmental groups have criticized as a partisan attempt to protect fossil fuels.
In a statement, FERC said the order would protect the competitiveness of the PJM Interconnection power grid operator's capacity market, which pays generation providers to keep their power plants available for service at in order to maintain system reliability.

The two FERC Republican commissioners voted to expand the minimum capacity market price for state-subsidized generators, and Democrat Richard Glick disagreed.
FERC chairman Neil Chatterjee said in the statement that the commission had an obligation to "provide equal conditions for all resources."
Chatterjee and the other Republican on the panel, Bernard McNamee, were named by President Donald Trump, an open advocate for fossil fuels.
PJM, which operates the network in all or part of 13 Midwestern and Midwestern US states. The U.S. said in an emailed statement that it had not yet received the FERC order and would begin discussing its content with stakeholders at a January meeting.
Renewable energy resources, such as wind and solar, which are incentivized by many states, will require a lower price at the capacity auction, though cost reductions in their technologies now often make them cheaper than fossil fuel alternatives.
Environmental groups such as the Sierra Club and the Union of Concerned Scientists said the decision would add billions of dollars to consumer energy costs.
In recent years, many states have adopted policies that support the continued operation or construction of certain types of generation, such as nuclear and renewable energy, to meet carbon reduction and other environmental goals. Operators of natural gas power plants have opposed these subsidies because they argue that they reduce what their plants receive in the capacity and energy markets.
The North American Wind Energy Association said in a statement that the ruling "threatens the rights of states and impedes their ability to bring more clean energy to their communities."
The FERC action is based on an earlier order from June 2018, which found that out-of-market payments provided by PJM states to support the operation of certain generation resources, threaten the competitiveness of the capacity market of PJM.
In his statement, Chatterjee said states can still choose which sources of support to support.
PJM has 90 days to meet.
