TRENDING: Bayonne. Lawyers maintain 'hard' strike against pension reform project
The lawyers met Monday, January 13, 2020 in front of the courthouse in Bayonne, they symbolically threw off their black dresses to keep their current pension plan.
About fifty lawyers mobilized on Monday, January 13, 2020, in front of the Courthouse of Bayonne at the request of the national bar council which represents all the lawyers of France and Navarre (70,000 lawyers). A union meeting with the Keeper of the Seals took place on Monday, January 13, 2020, which has not yet given rise to any guarantees.
Teddy Vermote, Bâtonnier of Bayonne, said that if this reform passed, it would be the end of small firms, those which achieve "between 30 and 40,000 euros in turnover".
This new pension reform risks destroying many law firms. Black dresses have an autonomous retirement plan that is beneficial and united. Their plan is funded 100% by and for lawyers.
Despite the meeting with the Keeper of the Seals, no promises or guarantees emerged. The minister still committed to writing them a letter in the coming days, with proposals from the government. The lawyers consider that they must keep their autonomy and do not want to enter the general regime.
The strike has been extended until at least Tuesday January 14, 2020 and could continue until Friday January 17, 2020.
