1917 exclusive film cast interviews: On January 23, 2020, the new film by acclaimed director Sam Mendes arrives in theaters 1917, set at the time of the First World War. Film intended to be talked about, shot entirely as if it were a very long sequence plan. An incredible experience for the viewer, for a film in constant movement, adrenaline to say the least.
Interviewed by Sky Tg24, the director and some cast members talked in detail about this incredible project. Sam Mendes drew inspiration from the stories of his grandfather, who was on the battlefield between 1916 and 1918. He found himself living those atrocious experiences at the tender age of 17. The whole world was at war, so anyone who wasn't an infant had to take up a rifle.
He used to tell stories to little Sam, all terrifying. None of those revolved around cases of incredible heroism. These were common stories, of daily life at the front, therefore of luck. The luck of still being alive.
The film tells of a long journey, of a race against time by two soldiers, called to run beyond the enemy lines. This affects the lives of 1600 soldiers, including the protagonist's brother, who are about to end up in a trap. Mendes explains that he chose this directorial style to allow the viewer to stay with the protagonists for the duration of the film. In the dining room you will have the opportunity to fully experience this journey, without cuts, without references to other scenes.

So all the barriers between those who act and those who observe are broken down. However, filming in the sequence also had an effect on the cast. The two protagonists have in fact explained how they even managed to shoot 9 minutes long scenes, without any cut. If it is true that the film has exploited some assembly tricks, it is inevitable that in fact an attempt was made to recreate as many real sequence plans as possible. Such long scenes, explained Dean-Charles Chapman (Blake), allow you to completely lose yourself in the character.
A somewhat harsh rehearsal, as explained by George Mackay (Schofield), since it was not only the 9-10 minutes of continuous filming, but also the previous rehearsals. A probative test but, in the case of war episodes, everything was quickly put into perspective by the actors. Their physical effort was not comparable to that of real soldiers, which helped them move forward.
A project that, as Mendes points out, manages to put you in touch with those guys, with what they found themselves living. The spectator is therefore catapulted crudely onto a battlefield, which in fact is never abandoned, until the end. One way, explains the director, to transmit universal concepts, to analyze the human soul in extreme, but unfortunately not so distant situations.
1917, the plot
A crucial year for the First World War, 1917, is told from the point of view of two young British soldiers, Corporals Schofield and Blake. Two friends chosen for a delicate task, to cross the enemy territory to deliver a message to a battalion that risks ending up in a trap and being exterminated. It's a race against time, which sees Blake particularly involved. In fact, in that battalion there is also his brother.

"We don't have a date yet, it will be a surprise - Ventura clarified -. […] It was totally unexpected love at first sight. I came out of a very long history, I thought I was alone and to regain my independence and freedom. Instead, the unexpected happened at a friend's house. A friend of mine asked me if she could invite him and asked him the same thing about me. After dinner, I started thinking about him, he had given me his book and I started reading it, I thought I was stupid, but I understood that something was wrong. I spent the night awake and in the morning I called my friend asking for Giovanni's number ”.
Super Simo then recounted his return to television as a contestant on the Island of the Famous. In reality, Ventura experienced difficult moments, also participating in the now famous mud fight with Mercedesz Henger, who became his rival in Honduras.
"It was the lowest point - he told Chiambretti -. I cracked a rib, but this ugly thing gave me a lot of affection from the audience. I had become a little bourgeois and I had ended up in a whirlwind of loneliness, also because of me, but I was surrounded by negative energy. The broadcast was fierce with me, but since 2016 I have come closer to the public and since then I have never stopped ".
Today Ventura is experiencing a particularly happy moment. Not only thanks to the television hits, but also to his loved ones.
